Ivory Coast: The metro will be put into service in 2024

Economic news

Faced with population growth and air pollution, the Ivory Coast government is speeding up construction of the first metro line in Abidjan. The railway infrastructure, financed by loans, should relieve congestion in the Ivorian economic capital in two years. The authorities signed financing agreements with the French Treasury and the French banks BNP Paribas and Société Générale. The construction is being carried out in partnership with Alstom and Colas Rail, a subsidiary of Bouygues. The metro which covers 37 km, will serve 540,000 people, and help promote ecological mobility.
