Nigeria launches a new gas pipeline project

President Buhari launched a $2.6 billion gas pipeline project that will further enhance the country’s energy security. The Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano infrastructure is a 614-kilometer pipeline developed by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to transport natural gas from the south to central Nigeria.

It represents phase 1 of the 1,300-km Trans-Nigerian Gas Pipeline, which is being developed as part of Nigeria’s gas masterplan to utilize the country’s surplus gas resources for power generation as well as for consumption by domestic customers. The project ambitions to facilitate the revival of industries in the country.
