Ethiopia’s tigray region eyes election in challenge to national unity
Last March, Ethiopia postponed parliamentary and regional elections scheduled for August due to Covid 19 and a new date is to be set.
Yet in the Tigray region, the governing party (TPLF-Tigray People’s Liberation Front) said it would proceed with elections despite the nationwide postponement of voting.
The decision is considered as a challenge to Ethiopia’s federal government and a test to the country’s fragile unity.
