Nigeria and the United States have signed a framework for greater cooperation in the Nigerian mining sector, whose mineral resources are valued by the authorities at approximately $700 billion. Cooperation is expected to cover investment, geological data, exploration, processing and technical capacity, while Nigeria is seeking to retain more value through local transformation. The initiative places the country more firmly within the international competition to secure critical-mineral supply chains.
