Cameroon's political landscape was marked by the passing of one of its most influential figures, Cavaye Yeguié Djibril, who died on 6 May 2026 at the age of 86. Having served as Speaker of the National Assembly since 1992, he had been succeeded only a few weeks before his death by Théodore Datouo. A leading figure of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) and a central actor in the country's political life for more than half a century, his passing marks the end of an era and raises important questions about political renewal within the lower house of Parliament.
