UN desperate for more aid to fight Covid 19

The United Nations announced it is increasing its appeal to fight the coronavirus pandemic in fragile and vulnerable countries from $2 billion to $6.7 billion. This appeal includes African vulnerable countries such as Benin, Djibouti, Liberia, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Togo and Zimbabwe.

In some African countries, economies are contracting as export earnings, remittances and tourism disappear. According to the UN: ‘Unless we act now, we should be prepared for a significant rise in conflict, hunger and poverty. The specter of multiple famines looms”.
