African Union to send team of 90 observers to monitor Nigeria’s elections

Political News

The African Union Commission has announced that it will send a team of 90 observers to Nigeria for the upcoming elections on February 25th. The team will be led by former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. The election is set to be a landmark moment with nearly 100 million people eligible to vote for a successor to Buhari, who is stepping down after 2 terms in office. According to experts, multiple challenges ahead of the elections are worrying. Nigeria’s current state of insecurity, a cash shortage due to a lack of newly designed Naira currency notes, and a struggling economy could potentially create an environment ripe for electoral malpractice.
