DR Congo: Political crisis looms as Tshisekedi seeks to scrap ruling coalition

DRC President Tshisekedi wants to end a two-year power-sharing coalition with ex-President Joseph Kabila’s faction, which stalled many of Tshisekedi’s much-touted reforms.

Tshisekedi has been president of DRC since he won the 2018 election, the country’s first peaceful transition of power since gaining independence from Belgium in 1960. But Tshisekedi’s supporters say the coalition government between his parliamentary alliance, and the FCC has straitjacketed his leadership.
